This Christmas CD was recorded in December 2009 while Crystal was on her mission. She pre-recorded a viola solo for us before she left for the Mission Training Center in November.
1. Santa Set Three songs about Santa–”Up On the Housetop,” “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” and “When Santa Claus Gets Your Letter.” This set has some hot mandolin playing by Brittany. Amanda’s vocals really shine, with clever new words to the last song. Amanda–violin, Ed–bass, Judy–banjo.
2. Huron Carol Amanda’s haunting vocals are the focal point of this Canadian carol, followed closely by Brittany’s cello (and harmony), Judy’s guitar, and Ed’s great bass drone!
3. Chiquirriquitín This popular Andalucian Christmas carol tells how the Christ child is beloved by all. The melody is addictive, sticking with you hours after you stop singing! Judy–guitar and accordion, Brittany–guitar, Ed–tambourine. Everyone is singing!
4. It Came Upon Amazing Grace A peaceful instrumental version of “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear”combined with “Amazing Grace,” this number features Brittany on harmonica and cello, Amanda on violin, Judy on guitar, and Ed on bass.
5. Rise Up Shepherd and Follow Amanda and Brittany sing a soulful vocal duet with Judy accompanying them on piano Our neighbor, Tom Cappelletti, adds a mean sax to the mix.
6. Ring, Little Bells Who doesn’t love an excuse to ring bells? This
German carol gave everyone an opportunity to ring a bell or two (or more).
7. Winter Carol Also known as “In the Bleak Mid Winter,” this is a different melody from the more familiar one. Amanda and Brittany provide strong vocals as well as great instrumentals on harp and cello. Judy and Ed sat and enjoyed the music!
8. Fröhliche Weihnacht Überall! We had to include a German song, after our family trip to the Fatherland. Throw in a little accordion by Judy, and you can really get into the spirit of the song. Amanda sings a solo as none of us could master the pronunciation. Brittany is on piano, and Ed on bass.
9. Once in Royal David’s City We were happy Crystal found time to record this beautiful viola solo for us before she left on her mission. Brittany accompanies her on the piano.
10. Gesu, Bambino What album would be complete without Amanda doing a song in the style in the manner to which she has become accustomed? This beautiful rendition is accompanied by Judy on the piano. Brittany provides the cello obligato.
11. Feliz Navidad Two Spanish songs on one album! We thought of Crystal in El Salvador when we did this because she is speaking Spanish and because there is nothing she likes better than a song you can sing at the top of your lungs! Brittany plays cello, claves pand spoons. Amanda plays violin, shakers, washboard and horn. Judy is on Guitar and Ed is on bass!
